History

The history of the Kulczyk Investments Group is the story of achievements spanning four generations of entrepreneurs, who over a number of decades have built the foundations of a family business. In 1991, Jan Kulczyk founded Kulczyk Holding (KH), which completed a series of ground-breaking investment projects over the next few years, becoming an important link in Poland’s economic transformation.

Today, Kulczyk Investments is owned by Sebastian Kulczyk.  It is growing primarily in the new technologies sector, investing long-term in medium-sized European companies in selected sectors. Through the venture capital fund Manta Ray, it is developing a portfolio of technological companies with major potential for growth, and supports the most talented entrepreneurs with a mission to introduce transformation solutions for instance for the education, biotechnologies, and future infrastructure sectors.
At the same time, Kulczyk Investments took control of a gold mine in Namibia. In 2024, Qemetica (formerly CIECH) made its largest foreign acquisition, purchasing PPG’s chemical assets in the US and the Netherlands. In 2025, Beyond.pl launched the AI Factory – the largest center for creating artificial intelligence-based solutions in this part of Europe. Since 2019, NOHO Investment has been building luxury apartments in Krakow, Katowice, Wrocław, and Warsaw.

Škoda Auto Polska begins operations.

Škoda Auto Polska enters into first dealer contracts and starts operating. Škoda Favorit is the first model to be sold.

Strategic partner in Lech Browary Wielkopolski.

South African Breweries International (future SABMiller) supports Kompania Piwowarska in its quest to become the leading player in the Polish brewery market.

Privatization of Browary Tyskie Górny Śląsk.

Participation in the privatization of Browary Tyskie Górny Śląsk – the strategic partner South African Breweries International acquires the majority stake.

First stage of investment in TUiR Warta.

Kulczyk Holding starts investing in TUiR Warta which becomes Poland’s largest private insurance group.

Concession agreement for the A2 motorway.

Autostrada Wielkopolska and the Polish Government sign a concession agreement to construct the A2 motorway. It is the first such significant investment project in Poland carried out on the basis of a Public-Private-Partnership.

Disposal of the share in Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa.

The new investment strategy focuses on the brewing, infrastructure and automotive sectors.

The purchase of the majority stake in TUiR Warta from the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

Kulczyk Holding and its subsidiaries become the majority shareholder in Warta. The main achievement is the restructuring of the former state-owned company into a market-oriented organization making it one of the most competitive insurance groups in Poland.

Kompania Piwowarska is formed.

Kulczyk Holding leads the merger of the breweries Lech Browary Wielkopolski and Browary Tyskie Górny Śląsk. One of the largest and the most technologically advanced brewing groups in Poland is created with over 40% market share.

Polenergia is established.

Kulczyk Holding forms Polenergia to become one of the leading private energy trading companies in Poland.

Privatization of Telekomunikacja Polska.

In consortium with France Telecom, Kulczyk Holding completes the largest privatization deal in Central Europe. The consortium acquires a 47.5% share in Telekomunikacja Polska from the State Treasury.

Investment in PTE Dom pension fund.

The construction of the A2 motorway begins.

Autostrada Wielkopolska starts construction of the A2 motorway, the main axis of the strategic road corridor linking Poland to Western Europe.

The first section of A2.

The first, almost 50 km long, section of the A2 motorway from Konin to Września is completed.

Investment in PKN Orlen.

At the turn of 2001 and 2002 Kulczyk companies invest in PKN Orlen, one of the largest oil refineries in Europe (they exit the investment in 2005).

Browar Dojlidy merges with Kompania Piwowarska.

Together with SABMiller, Kulczyk Holding acquires Browar Dojlidy. In 2008, Browar Belgia, the owner of such brands as Palm and Gingers will also merge with Kompania Piwowarska.

Investment in the chemical sector.

The Group acquires the POCH chemical plant, one of Poland’s largest producers of specialized chemical materials and reagents for laboratories.

Another section of the A2 motorway is completed.

Autostrada Wielkopolska completes the construction of the next section of the A2 motorway (Poznań to Nowy Tomyśl). It is the fastest built motorway in Europe (150 km in three years).

The development of Beyond.pl

Beyond.pl is a provider of data center, cloud, and managed services, majority-owned by Kulczyk Holding. The company develops digital infrastructure operations, supporting businesses and institutions in their technological transformation.

Investment in Pekaes.

Through a subsidiary company Kulczyk Holding invests in PEKAES, a Polish logistics operator listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

KH explores for oil&gas.

Kulczyk Holding Invests in Ophir Energy, an upstream company operating in Africa. The oil & gas sector becomes one of the strategic sectors for the group.

The Kulczyk Holding Group is reorganized.

An international investment group is created to focus on the most strategic sectors of the economy: oil and gas, mineral resources, power generation, power and gas distribution and trading as well as infrastructure. The Luxembourg based company is now called Kulczyk Investments and is run by Dariusz Mioduski.

Preparations for the IPO for KOV.

Kulczyk Oil Ventures is created following the division of Loon Energy Inc. into two separate units. KOV intends to list its shares on the Warsaw Stock Exchange in 2010.

Investment in Aurelian Oil & Gas.

Kulczyk Investments starts extensive exploration for natural gas in Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and Slovakia.

The A2 motorway to Germany.

Autostrada Wielkopolska finalises negotiations with the Ministry of Infrastructure concerning the financing of the Nowy Tomyśl – Świecko section of the A2 motorway. In 2011 Poland will be linked to the European motorway network.

Construction of the final stretch of the A2 motorway begins.

In June, Autostrada Wielkopolska, the government and banks sign agreements with respect to the construction and operation of the Nowy Tomyśl – Świecko stretch of the A2 motorway. The new road will connect Poland with the European motorway network prior to the EURO 2012.

Taking control of PEKAES.

Kulczyk Holding becomes the holder of a 58.42% share in the leading logistics operator, PEKAES; the only sector company listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

Kulczyk Holding, one of SABMiller larger shareholders.

After contributing a 28.1% share in Kompania Piwowarska to the SABMiller Group, Kulczyk Holding becomes the holder of a 3.8% share in the world’s second largest beer producer.

Jan Kulczyk, the richest Pole.

Jan Kulczyk is at the top of the list of the richest Poles published by Forbes Magazine. He is also the highest classified Pole in the World’s richest people list.

Kulczyk Oil Ventures listed on the WSE.

On 25 May, the shares of Kulczyk Oil Ventures are listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

Creation of CEED.

Jan Kulczyk launches “Central and East European Development”, a think-tank for ideas and initiatives which promotes the achievements of the ten newest EU member states

Ophir floats on the LSE.

On 13 July, Ophir Energy, a company exploring for oil and gas in Africa, successfully floats on the LSE main market. It is the fourth company in the Kulczyk Group listed in London.

A2, the longest and the most technologically advanced Polish motorway links Poland with the European road network.

On 1 December, six months earlier than planned, Autostrada Wielkopolska opens the final stretch of the A2 motorway, from Świecko to Nowy Tomyśl. The PLN 6 billion investment is the largest project based on Public Private Parntership in Europe and Poland’s largest infrastructure project.

KI Group holds 40 % in the Neconde Consortium that won in a tender to buy procuction licences in the Niger delta.

Opening of Ufficio Primo.

Following a complex revitalization, Ufficio Primo, the most prestigious office building in Poland is opened.

Kulczyk Holding one of the largest private CIT payers in Poland.

In the ranking published by Puls Biznesu, Kulczyk Holding is the second largest private CIT payer in Poland.

Kulczyk Oil Ventures acquires Winstar Resources and becomes Serinus Energy.

Kulczyk Oil Ventures acquires Winstar Resources, a Canadian exploration and production company with assets in Tunisia and Romania and subsequently changes its name into Serinus Energy.

Acquisition of CIECH.

KI Chemistry, a Kulczyk Investments group company, acquires by way of a public offering a controlling interest in the chemical group CIECH, one of European leaders in the soda and organic markets.

Sebastian Kulczyk takes the reins of Kulczyk Investments.

On 1st January, Sebastian Kulczyk is appointed Chief Executive Officer at Kulczyk Investments to manage the Group operations in over thirty countries on four continents.

Jan Kulczyk passes away.

Jan Kulczyk, a visionary of business, a philanthropist and a patron of culture and sport, passes away on 29 July, due to postoperative complications.

Sale of SABMiller’s stake.

The sale of SABMiller’s shareholding was a part of the company’s acquisition by AB InBev – one of the largest mergers in the history of capital markets, valued at over £79 billion.
Kulczyk Investments, as SABMiller’s largest private shareholder, concluded this way a key stage in its history and opened a new chapter of development.

100 million of goodness

Sebastian and Dominika Kulczyk declared to provide PLN 100 million to assist the poorest people.
This is the highest one-off payment donated to charity in the history of Poland.

InCredibles for the Polish start-ups.

Sebastian Kulczyk launched an innovative programme supporting Polish companies from the new-tech sector. Partners to the project were Campus Google (Warsaw) and IBM.

The Champions Wall in the Polish Olimpic Committee.

The Olimpic Champions Wall was officially unveiled in the main hall of the Polish Olimpic Committee. The gallery of 96 pictures of the most prominent Polish sportsmen is crowned with the quote of the greatest patron of Polish sport, dr Jan Kulczyk: „Olympians, conquer the world! For yourselves. For us. For Poland”.

Division of assets and new group structure

Three years after Jan Kulczyk’s death, Dominika and Sebastian divided their assets in an amicable way. Sebastian assumed control of Kulczyk Investments, CIECH, and Autostrada Wielkopolska, while Dominika assumed control of Polenergia and the Kulczyk Foundation.

The establishment of Manta Ray VC fund

Sebastian Kulczyk established the venture capital fund Manta Ray Ventures investing in global technology companies whose mission is to implement transformative solutions for education, health, biotechnology, and the infrastructure of the future.

Akademia Szkolnych Talentów [Academy of School Talents]

Sebastian Kulczyk initiated the Academy of School Talents program, aimed at supporting the development of children of the staff of Kulczyk Investments Group companies. Participants receive personalized mentoring, support in developing talents and choosing an educational path, as well as comprehensive advice on the process of applying for leading universities in Europe and the United States – from preparing the candidate’s profile to the admissions process.

2nd edition of InCredibles programme.

For the second time, Sebastian Kulczyk invited start-ups to his acceleration programme that is focused on supporting innovative entrepreneurs from Central and Eastern Europe. Partners of this year’s edition were Startup Hub Poland, Campus Google (Warsaw), Business Link and Bain & Company. The second edition of the InCredibles program for startups from Central and Eastern Europe took place in partnership with Startup Hub Poland, Campus Google (Warsaw), Business Link and Bain & Company.

The establishment of NOHO Investment

NOHO Investment was founded as a developer of premium, multifunctional residential projects in Poland’s largest cities. The company focuses on prestigious locations and the revitalization of post-industrial areas, creating modern urban quarters combining high-quality architecture, design, and infrastructure for residents.

CIECH among largest investors abroad.

The CIECH group has been rated an impressive eleventh in a ranking of the largest Polish private firms with investments abroad drawn up by the prestigious monthly Forbes. The CIECH group’s assets outside of Poland have been valued at more than PLN 1.1 bn.

InCredibles programme run for third time.

Eleven companies, winners in three prestigious start-up competitions, have been selected in another InCredibles mentor programme: the Katowice European Start-up Challenge, the Business Insider Trends Festival, and SingularityU Global Impact Challenge.

A new bypass for Poznań

Autostrada Wielkopolska completed the expansion of the Poznań bypass as a part of the A2 motorway. The investment included, among other things, the addition of a third lane along a 16-kilometer section and was the first project in Poland to be implemented “under traffic.”

Pho3nix Foundation is launched

Pho3nix Foundation – an international social initiative launched by Sebastian Kulczyk – supports talented young athletes, whose development and sporting ambitions are hindered by financial barriers.

The fourth edition of InCredibles
The fourth edition of the InCredibles program selected 10 companies – winners of leading startup competitions: the European Start-up Challenge in Katowice, the Business Insider Trends Festival, and the SingularityU Global Impact Challenge. The Incredible Academy – a customized series of workshops and consultations for the program’s finalists – was also launched.

10 M PLN for people in need
Sebastian Kulczyk donated over PLN 10 million to support dedicated hospitals and social welfare homes, providing assistance to over 7,000 people.

CIECH delists from the Warsaw Stock Exchange

KI Chemistry, owned by Kulczyk Investments, increased its shareholding in CIECH to 100%, enabling the company to delist from the Warsaw Stock Exchange. This change is intended to provide greater operational flexibility in a volatile market environment.
Kulczyk Investments takes over 100% of Beyond.pl
Kulczyk Investments has acquired a 100% stake in Beyond.pl, strengthening its position in the digital infrastructure space. Full control of the company enables the further development of data center services and solutions supporting clients’ technological transformation.

The first InCredible Summit
The first InCredible Summit was held, which was the finale of the sixth edition of Sebastian Kulczyk’s InCredibles mentoring program. The program finalists presented their projects to the jury, and the event attracted over 160 people – representatives of companies from all editions of the program, entrepreneurs, mentors, investors, and initiative partners.

A new aquatic rehabilitation center for children at the Children’s Health Center in Warsaw
Thanks to a PLN 21 million donation from Sebastian Kulczyk’s Pho3nix Foundation, a state-of-the-art comprehensive aquatic rehabilitation center will be built at the location of the former CZD swimming pool. The pool will be adapted to accommodate people with disabilities. The annual number of hospitalizations at the Rehabilitation Clinic is over 30,000.

These awards recognize leaders who effectively guide their organizations through dynamic market changes, adapt to the challenges of digitalization, and become successful in competitive international markets.

Qemetica acquires silica business in the US

Qemetica has entered into an agreement to acquire the precipitated silica business from the American corporation PPG for PLN 1.2 billion (approximately USD 310 million). This is one of the largest investments made by a Polish company in the American market – encompassing plants in the US and the Netherlands – which has resulted in an increase in revenue of over PLN 1 billion and the diversification of operations in new markets, strengthening the company’s global position.

Sebastian Kulczyk with an award for the 35th anniversary of economic freedom

Sebastian Kulczyk won the Money.pl award in the “Transformers” category. He was awarded for leading the company through a long-term transformation and developing new initiatives, including the Manta Ray VC fund and the InCredibles mentoring program.

Eighth Grade – Level-Headed Adulthood [Ósemka – w dorosłość z głową]

Qemetica launched a pilot mentoring program, “Eighth Grade – Level-Headed Adulthood,” addressed to eighth-grade students from Inowrocław and the surrounding areas, as well as the children of company employees. The program supported young people in caring for their mental health and learning effectively, and selected schools also benefitted from the “VR Silence Zone” solution developed by Unicorn VR World, a finalist in the InCredibles program.

The Polish Economy Decarbonization Index

Qemetica, Employers of Poland [Pracodawcy RP], and the Instrat Foundation launched the Polish Economy Decarbonization Index. The initiative analyzes progress in the green transformation and identifies key decarbonization challenges for businesses in Poland.

Tomorrow is now

Kulczyk Investments organized the “Jutro to teraz” [Tomorrow is now] event, during which experts, entrepreneurs, and managers analyzed key challenges of the future. The discussion focused on the civilizational processes shaping global change and influencing the current world order.

Sebastian Kulczyk and his InCredibles mentoring program were awarded with the “Super Business” Golden Laurel in the “Startup Support” category. The award was presented in recognition of his tangible support provided to young, innovative companies shaping the future of Polish business.

Kulczyk Investments with the „Inwestor bez Granic” award

Kulczyk Investments has won the “Investor Without Borders” [Inwestor bez Granic] award, which is presented to companies which successfully develop their operations on international markets and support the expansion of Polish enterprises abroad.

WNP Award for Qemetica

Qemetica received the WNP Award for its efforts to contribute to the development of the Polish economy. The company was awarded for its acquisition of PPG’s precipitated silica business in the US.

InCredibles with the Next 10 award

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of My Company Polska, Sebastian Kulczyk’s InCredibles mentoring program received the Next 10 award for an initiative that shapes the leaders of the future by asking the right questions.

InCredibles report: Portrait of a Polish startup founder A.D. 2025

The InCredibles program, in cooperation with the Mentors4Starters Foundation, published a pioneering report entitled “Competency Portrait of a Polish Technology Entrepreneur A.D. 2025,” analyzing the profile, competencies, and challenges of founders in Poland.

NOHO ONE – record deal on the residential housing market

The NOHO ONE investment has been launched in Warsaw. It is an apartment and service complex comprising eight buildings with green roofs and terraces, and over 1,500 square meters of Lifestyle Zone. The project sets new standards in the ultra-premium segment, and the sale of a 600-square-meter apartment for PLN 30 million is the largest officially confirmed transaction in the Polish residential market.

Beyond.pl starts off with an autonomous AI Factory

Beyond.pl announced the launch of a sovereign AI Factory with a capacity of 100 MW in Poznań – a breakthrough project for the development of artificial intelligence infrastructure in the Central and Eastern European region.

Quatrihub debuts on the market

Quatrihub, a company from the Kulczyk Investments group, launched its operations with a portfolio of three projects. In 2025, construction works began for the first warehouse near Wrocław, with an area of ​​27,000 square meters and a value of €30 million.

Investment in DomData

Kulczyk Investments has acquired a 65% shareholding in Poznań-based DomData, a company specializing in low-code solutions and business process automation. The investment is a part of the development of technologies which enable organizations to operate faster and adapt more flexibly to changes.

The establishment of Nextus Capital

Nextus Capital is an investment platform focused on the commercial real estate market in Poland, with Kulczyk Investments being the majority shareholder. The fund operates within the AIFMD structure in Luxembourg and invests the group’s equity as a co-investor, developing projects in industrial and logistics properties, affordable housing, and selected commercial assets.

MBA for Startups at the world top

MBA for Startups, a program jointly implemented by SGH and Sebastian Kulczyk’s InCredibles, has been included in the prestigious QS Online MBA 2026 Ranking, on the 15th position in the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) – out of 39 programs, and on the 33rd position globally – out of 126 programs. It is the only Polish online MBA program in the ranking.

The Small Steps Academy is launched

At the initiative of Sebastian Kulczyk, with support from the Pho3nix Foundation and the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, the Small Steps Academy – Aquatic Rehabilitation Center – was established at the Children’s Memorial Health Institute in Warsaw. This state-of-the-art facility offers innovative rehabilitation treatment for children and young people.

The national edition of the “Eighth Grade” program

Qemetica and the Nativated Group Foundation have launched the nationwide edition of the “Eighth Grade – Level-Headed Adulthood” program, implemented as a part of the Sebastian Kulczyk Academy of School Talents. Forty-three schools have signed up for the program, which supports mental well-being of young people.
